1. Who we are

Veyla is a private messaging application developed and operated as an independent service. If you have any questions about this policy or how your data is handled, you can contact us at [email protected].

2. What information we collect

We collect only the following personal information:

• Mobile phone number — collected solely for the purpose of verifying your identity when you create an account or sign in. We use SMS-based verification to confirm that you own the number you register with.

We do not collect your name, email address, location, device identifiers, or any other personal information beyond your phone number.

3. What we do not collect

• The content of any messages you send or receive
• Metadata about your conversations (such as who you message or when)
• Your contacts list
• Browsing or usage data beyond what is necessary for the app to function
• Any information for advertising or marketing purposes

4. End-to-end encryption

All messages sent through Veyla are end-to-end encrypted. This means that message content is encrypted on your device before being transmitted, and can only be decrypted by the intended recipient. Veyla has no ability to read, access, or store the content of your messages at any point.

5. How we use your phone number

Your phone number is used exclusively to:

• Verify your identity when you register or sign in
• Allow other Veyla users to find and message you if they have your number saved in their contacts

We do not use your phone number for marketing, share it with third parties for commercial purposes, or use it for any purpose beyond the operation of the service.

6. Data retention

Your phone number is retained for as long as you maintain an active account with Veyla. Message content is not retained by Veyla's servers beyond the time required for delivery to the recipient's device.

If you wish to delete your account and have your phone number removed from our records, you can do this in-app from within the Settings tab.

7. Your rights

Under UK GDPR and applicable data protection law, you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your data
• Object to or restrict how we process your data
• Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk

8. Third-party services

Veyla uses a small number of third-party services to operate:

• Firebase (Google) — used for authentication (phone number verification) and message delivery infrastructure. Google's privacy policy applies to data processed through Firebase. Firebase is used solely to facilitate the technical operation of the app.
• Anthropic (Claude AI) — used optionally for AI-generated decoy message creation, where a user chooses to enable this feature. When used, only the criteria provided by the user for decoy generation are transmitted — such as preferred message length and writing style characteristics. No actual message content is ever passed to Claude. Data transmitted is not associated with you personally and Anthropic has no means of identifying you as an individual from the information sent. Anthropic's privacy policy applies to data processed through their API.
• Apple — the app is distributed through the Apple App Store and is subject to Apple's standard platform terms.

9. Children's privacy

Veyla is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 15. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with their information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
